It is amazing how we sometimes measure other people’s achievements and potentials by ONLY the yardsticks that we are conversant with.
When a person is courageous enough to step up to a new plane, he or she is immediately judged by how much “his judges” think he knows or can do based on the previous plane from which he has arrived or by their own experiences.
The onus then rests on the prospective or applicant to ascertain his identity confidently and quickly, potential and ability to carry out the task at hand.
When David stood before Saul, in the bid to save Israel’s neck by dropping the shepherd’s staff and picking the soldier’s sword, naturally, Saul sized him up and deemed his past experiences as inconsequential, irrelevant, and unsuitable for the role that needed to be filled.
This role was part of a huge project that no one in Saul’s organization, not even Saul had been able to deliver without the collapse of the entire organization.
However, David quickly defended himself by making a case for his experiences without forgetting to mention how he was able to achieve his objectives, carry out his tasks and save his organization. He sold himself well- that was all he had- he was given a chance.
What David told Saul he was, was what Saul eventually believed he was, and this led to David landing one of the most prestigious jobs in that organization and as such David made a quantum leap that no one saw coming.
“YOUR PAST EXPERIENCE AND SKILL ARE TRANSFERABLE, DON’T DISDAIN OR DOWNPLAY IT. NEITHER ALLOWS SOMEONE ELSE TO DO THE SAME.“
IT WILL ALL COME TOGETHER.
Good morning
“And David said to Saul, your servant kept his father’s sheep. And when there came a lion or again a bear and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and smote it and delivered the lamb out of its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard and smote it and killed it. Your servant killed both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God! David said, The Lord Who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear, He will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Go, and the Lord be with you!”
